For a list of FAQs around e-liquid, take a look at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can read our more in-depth guide here.

What is e-liquid?

E-liquid - otherwise known as vape juice or e-juice - is the stuff that goes in your vape tank or vape pod. Heating e juice in your vape kit turns it into vapour which you then inhale.

The e-liquid you vape should contain no more than four ingredients, these are:

  • Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
  • Propylene Glycol (PG)
  • Flavour Concentrates (food-grade)
  • Nicotine (only in 10ml bottles)

We only sell TPD regulated and notified products, so you won't find any unsafe or illegal ingredients. Buying e-liquids from unknown sources can be hazardous, as you may not know what ingredients are being used. Stick to companies you know and trust, and if you ever have a question about a product that you have purchased, contact the manufacturer directly who will be able to help you. We still do not recommend vaping for anyone who doesn't currently smoke or vape, regardless of nicotine content.

What is PG and VG in e-liquid?

Vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG) are essential ingredients in all e-liquids. These can drastically alter your vaping experience depending on your bottle's ratios. So, what's the difference between PG and VG? PG has two functions in e-liquid. It carries the flavour and nicotine and provides the throat hit, meaning a higher ratio of PG gives you a stronger throat hit - perfect for those wanting to replicate the sensation of smoking. On the other hand, VG is a sugar alcohol, giving a very slight sweetness to your e-liquid. The higher the VG concentration, the more vapour produced on exhale. Higher VG e-liquids are therefore perfect for cloud-chasers looking for bigger exhales and a smoother draw.

What is freebase nicotine e-liquid?

Freebase nicotine e-liquids are the most common type of vape juice and use the same type of nicotine that's used in cigarettes and replacement therapies, like gum and patches. Heavier smokers usually go for freebase e-liquids as they deliver a harsher throat hit than nicotine salts, closely replicating the sensation of smoking tobacco. Freebase nicotine is absorbed more slowly by your body, so it'll take slightly longer for you to feel the effects compared to nicotine salts. Generally, they are compatible with all mouth-to-lung vape kits and are available in four nic strengths - 3mg, 6mg, 12mg and 18mg. Check out V4 Vapour for our most popular freebase 10mls.

What are nicotine salts?

Salt nicotine is a type of e-liquid that contains a purer form of nicotine found in the tobacco plant leaf. If you're looking for a smoother throat hit from your vape, nicotine salts are a perfect choice. Nic salts have a different chemical make up and are much smoother than freebase vape juice. Newer vapers may prefer nicotine salts to avoid that harshness. Those looking for an experience closer to traditional smoking will likely prefer freebase nicotine. You can buy nicotine salts in 10ml bottles, premixed with flavour. These are usually higher strength e-liquids, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg, and most commonly made with a 50VG/50PG ratio. We stock some of the most popular nic salts, including SALT, V4 Vapour Salts and Saltyv.

Can you use any e-liquid in any vape pen?

Choosing the right e-liquid for your vape kit is important. Picking the wrong one can lead to an unsatisfying vaping experience. The best e-liquid for pen style vapes are those with 50VG/50PG ratios, the most common ratio found in 10ml vape juices. These are much thinner than high VG e-liquids and don't require as much power to vape, meaning they're perfect for low wattage starter kits, vape pens and pod systems. High VG e-liquids are better suited to more powerful vape mods and sub-ohm devices. If you vaped these in MTL devices, you'd burn through your coils too quickly as they're far thicker than high PG vape juices. The high VG also means you'll produce much more vapour - so they're no good for stealth vaping but ideal for cloud-chasers!

How long does e-liquid last?

Like a lot of food and drink, e-liquids have best-before dates. After opening, we recommend using any eliquid containing nicotine within 2 years. In contrast, nicotine-free e-liquids generally won't expire. If you want to keep your e-liquid fresher for longer, changing up your storage methods could help. Keep your bottles out of the sun and store them in a dark, cool place, such as a cupboard or opaque container. This will stop the sun from oxidising and breaking down those important ingredients.

What is the best e-liquid flavour?

The best e-liquid flavour comes down purely to personal preference. Although some flavours are enjoyed almost universally, it doesn't mean everyone loves them. E-liquid flavours such as menthol and tobacco are very popular, especially amongst those who have recently switched to vaping. For those who prefer to not be reminded of their previous habit, fruity or dessert flavours tend to be more popular. Some of our best selling e-liquid flavours are Blueberry, Blue Raspberry and Grape.

Flavour preference can also be heavily influenced by the device type you are using. MTL Vape Kits replicate the sensation of smoking more closely and tend to be used with menthol and tobacco flavours. On the other hand, sub-ohm kits deal with thicker and sweeter shortfill flavours better, making them more suited to cake and dessert flavours.

Vapers are always searching for their "ADV" (or All Day Vape) flavour. This is the flavour that you can vape all day without getting bored of it. You might find that your preferences can alter quite drastically, especially with seasonal changes.

What is a shortfill?

Shortfills are the vaping industries' answer to the 2017 bottle size restrictions from the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). Do shortfills contain nicotine? No - they are larger bottles of 0mg e-liquid that leave space for vapers to add nicotine shots. That means that a 60ml shortfill bottle would contain 50ml of nicotine-free e-liquid and 10ml of space for your nicotine shot. Shortfills come in a variety of popular flavours and give vapers more control over the nicotine strength of their e-liquids. The best part? You get better value for money, with shortfill bottles available in 50ml, 100ml and 200ml sizes. Some of our most popular shortfill brands include V4 Vapour, Tasty Fruity and Drifter E-liquids.

What is a nicotine shot?

A nicotine shot, or just "nic shot" is designed to be added to your e-liquids. You can mix these with your favourite flavours as they are completely flavourless. Nic shots are used with shortfills, allowing vapers to create bigger bottles of e-liquids that are mixed to their preferred nicotine strength.

How many nicotine shots do I need for a shortfill?

This depends on a variety of factors, including your preferences and the size of your bottle. For example, an 18mg nic shot in a 50ml will create 60ml of e-liquid at roughly 3mg. 100ml shortfills will therefore need 2 x 18mg shots. Looking for a bit more strength? Double the amount of nic shots to achieve a 6mg e-liquid. Finding the right strength for you is all part of the fun!
