What are disposable/single-use vapes?
In recent years, disposable vapes (single-use vapes) have surged in popularity, becoming one of the most popular vaping products for both new and experienced vapers.
A disposable vape is a compact, non-rechargeable, vaping device that’s pre-filled with e-liquid and ready to use straight out of the box.

Why is there a ban
In early 2024, the UK government announced plans to ban disposable vapes, citing increasing concerns about youth vaping and environmental harm. Recent data shows that the number of 11 to 17-years-olds who vape in the UK has tripled over the past three years, with disposable vapes being the most commonly used device among underage users (gov.uk, 2024).
Each disposable vape contains plastic, lithium batteries, and other materials that are difficult to recycle. Alarmingly, an estimated five million disposable vapes are discarded every week in the UK (BBC, 2023), significantly contributing to electronic waste and environmental degradation.
The shift to compliant vaping
From 1st June 2025, vaping products must meet the new legal requirements:
Re-Fillable Pods
Vaping devices must have a refillable container or a pod system where they can be replaced.

Rechargeable device
All vaping devices must be rechargeable, as this will eliminate disposable single-use devices.
Replaceable coils
If a device contains a coil, it must be able to be replaced.

Recycling Bins
As the UK prepares to implement a ban on disposable vapes in June 2025, attention is turning not only to what we vape but also how we dispose of it. A key driver behind the upcoming ban is the environmental harm caused by vape waste.
That’s where dedicated recycling initiatives come in, and companies like 888 Vapour are leading the way.
At 888 Vapour, we’re committed to reducing vape-related waste and supporting our customers in making more sustainable choices. That’s why we offer in-store recycling bins specifically for used vape products, making it easier than ever to dispose of them responsibly.
