VooPoo Doric 60 Review: A versatile and affordable vape device

Continuing with their recent run of cross-compatible devices, VooPoo have released the Doric 60. This simple yet powerful device is perfect for anyone looking for something a little more portable than the Drag X. Here’s our thoughts on the new VooPoo Doric 60.

Design

The VooPoo Doric 60 strikes the balance between a vape pen and a pod mod, plus it’s cross-compatible with the full range of PnP pods and coils. This gives you the ability to customise your vaping experience far more than most simple devices at this price point, and you can quickly switch between direct-to-lung (DTL) and mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping. 

Available in five colours with a matte metallic finish, the VooPoo Doric 60 is a compact but sturdy vape device that feels comfortable in the hand. It’s also a lot shorter than most vape pens so it fits neatly in your pocket, perfect for vaping on the move when you don’t want to carry around your much bulkier Drag X. VooPoo also says the Doric 60 is scratch resistant and anti-fingerprint, so you don’t have to worry about it quickly losing its out-of-the-box shine. 

The adjustable airflow ring is located near the top of the device just beneath the tank. It has a couple of subtle design touches, including two silver rings and a knurled finish around the airflow adjustment to help with grip. It offers a nice feel, and you simply twist it 360 degrees to find your perfect draw. 

There’s a very small amount of branding on the Doric 60, keeping it clean and minimal, but one of the most simple yet helpful features is it’s rubber ring on the bottom. This helps keep the device stable when stood up and protects both the bottom of the device and your furniture. 

The fire button is located on the side of the device, which again feels robust. Above it you’ll find the three LED indicators which tell you how much charge you have left and which power mode you’re using. The USB-C charging port is on the opposite side to the fire button, and the Doric 60 can charge at a rate of 1.6A. 

Features

Whilst the VooPoo Doric 60 is a very simple device, it does have a few useful features. 

The vape kit offers both auto-draw and button firing, and you can choose between three power modes depending on your preference. You set the power mode using the firing button. To turn the device on or off, you click it five times and press it three times to enter adjustment mode. From there, you just press the button until you’ve selected your desired power mode, which is indicated by the three LEDs. The lights will glow white for high power, green for middle power and blue for low power.  

The LEDs also indicate your remaining battery, with three lights indicating fully charged, two showing 30-65% charged and one light indicating 30% or less. The LEDs will glow white when charging, and it’s fully charged when all three are permanently lit. 

In terms of power output, the VooPoo Doric 60 automatically detects the best power output for your coil and has high wattage protection to help you vape safely. All you have to do is pop the coil in, attach the pod and that’s it - you’re ready to vape!

Pods and coils

In the box, you get the VooPoo Doric 60 device along with one refillable PnP pod, which can be exchanged for any of the PnP pods and coils if you wish. It comes with two coils in the box, a 0.3 Ohm mesh coil and a 0.2 Ohm mesh coil. 

The device offers a great DTL vape with the 0.2 Ohm coil, but it’s not the most powerful device in the world, so you definitely won’t be able to go any lower than 0.2 Ohms. If you prefer a tighter MTL vape, you can choose any of the higher resistance coils, adjust the airflow and attach a smaller mouthpiece if you’d prefer. The options are endless with the Doric 60. 

The coils offer great flavour regardless of power mode, and the PnP’s are well known for their long lifespan. This does depend on how frequently you vape and what e-liquid you use though, as some thicker dessert blends can burn through coils quicker than lighter fruit flavoured e-liquids. 

Battery life and charging

The 2500mAh internal battery is a good fit for the VooPoo Doric 60. You can easily enjoy a full day of vaping in medium power mode with the 0.3 Ohm coil, and using high power mode with the 0.2 Ohm coil doesn’t reduce it too heavily. Obviously, your battery life will depend on how frequently you vape. If your vape never leaves your hand, you’ll probably find yourself reaching for the charger before the end of the day. 

The only downside to the Doric is it’s charging time. The 1.6A charging rate means it can take up to two hours to charge from flat, but it makes a great second device for vaping on the move. Whilst it’s charging, you can always remove the pod and pop it on your Drag X or any other compatible device whilst you wait for it to recharge.

So, what do we think?

The VooPoo Doric 60 might look simple and minimal, and definitely it is. However, it offers far more flexibility and better battery life than many similar devices on the market, with adjustable airflow and the huge range of PnP coils to choose from.
