Design
The Smok Nord 50W uses a similar shape and design to its predecessors, available in a wide range of bold colours. You can also choose between two finishes, the leather series or the regular, offering a selection of marbled, eye-catching designs depending on your taste.
Both series offer a sturdy finish, so it's safe for vaping on the move and can withstand a few knocks. The mouthpiece is fairly large, and beneath it you'll find the power button and LED indicator on the front and the airflow slider on the back. There's two air inlets on either side of the device, plus a large OLED screen on one side to help you keep on top of your vape settings.
The Smok 50W has a flat base, making it stable when stood up, and the USB Type-C charging port is located on the bottom. The Leather Series is slightly heavier than the Regular range, but only by 2 grams so it's not particularly noticeable. Overall it's a comfortable device in the hand that will fit neatly into most pockets and bags.
Features
As it's name suggests, the Smok Nord 50W offers up to 50W of vaping and supports both mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping. This makes it a versatile device that will suit a range of vaping styles, and it's easy to switch between them by simply swapping out the pods.
The large OLED screen on the side displays all the information you need to know whilst vaping. It includes battery level, current wattage, puff counter and coil resistance, which it automatically detects when you replace the pod. The white text on the black background is easy to read, and it even says goodbye to your when you turn it off, which is a lovely little extra.
The airflow slider, located on the back of the device, is simple to use and allows you more precise control over your vaping experience. Open it all the way for a fully DTL vape or close it for a tighter MTL sensation. In terms of safety features, the Nord 50W is packed with them. It has an 8-second cut off to prevent it accidentally firing when stored in your bag or pocket, a low-voltage warning, plus over-heat, lithium-ion and short-circuit protection.
Pods and coils
The Smok Nord 50W comes with two pods in the box, the Smok LP2 and the Nord pod. Both support DTL vaping and are clearly labelled so you don't mix them up. The Nord pod supports any Nord coil, allowing you to choose between 0.6, 0.8 and 1.4 Ohms for an MTL vape.
Both pods come preinstalled with their matching coils. The LP2 is compatible with the LP2 0.23 Ohm coils, whilst the Nord pod comes with a 0.6 Ohm coil, so it's ready to use straight away. When you need to change your coil, all you have to do with the Nord pod is take out the old one, wick your new coil and push it back in. With the LP2 there's a small tab on the bottom that you simply pull out to release the old coil before replacing it with a new one.
Battery life and charging
The Smok Nord 50W has an internal 1800mAh battery, which is impressive in a device that offers 50W power. It easily lasts a day or two between charges, but this of course depends on your wattage choice and vaping frequency.
The Type-C fast charging port, located on the bottom, supports a maximum 1.2A maximum charge current that quickly gets you back to full power.
